Goals and Vision: Provide the vertical boundary to an all glass stairway. Align with the tapering edge of the glass treads. Be supported by similarly tapering bases wrapping into slender channels to hold the glass balustrade. Only compliment the stairway treads and lie about your weight by looking effortlessly supported. Hide all of the normal obvious gyrations of handrail caps at landings and the slightly winding center. Wrap onto the upper balcony and define its presence.
Specific challenges: Placing minimal supports in a tapering and then expanding structure without calling attention to their presence. Maintaining absolute precision, minimal appearance, but maximum strength. No flex was allowed and considerable forces on the few members had to be effectively countered without additional obvious braces. Everything had to appear effortless.
